About Fabrice Leroux

A visual artist based in Aveyron (France), Fabrice Leroux creates a multifaceted body of work that blends installation, performance, photography, sound art and video.

His approach is defined as a series of ‘poetic attempts to give expression to his questions’. Fascinated since childhood by 17th-century Vanitas paintings and deeply influenced by history, he explores the human condition through an existentialist lens. His work highlights the constant tension between our free will and the determinisms (social, geographical or philosophical) that shape us.

A medium rich in memories

To give voice to these questions, Fabrice Leroux draws on raw, time-worn materials: ash, rust and wear and tear. These elements, imbued with traces and history, become metaphors for a fragile yet precious life. As he points out: “I often contrast strength with fragility. It is in this fragility that the value of existence lies.”

Body and human connection at the Heart of the Work

Beyond the object itself, the artist often places his own body at the centre of the creative process. In performance-based projects such as ‘Je suis l’expo’, he himself becomes both the medium and the venue for the exhibition, breaking down the traditional distance between himself and the audience.

This approach aims to foster an intimate encounter. Fabrice Leroux’s installations are conceived as spaces for confrontation, where the viewer is invited to enter his ‘inner home’. The artist regularly speaks of these special moments when a visit gives way to a genuine exchange, touching on matters of intimacy, life and death.
